Why Do Gallego and Kelly Want To NOT Protect Women Athletes?
|
The H.R. 28: Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025 has passed in the House, but our Arizona Senators REFUSE to allow it to come to a vote by filibustering in the Senate. Senator Gallego has the special distinction of having voted against this TWICE, first as a member of the House and now as a member of the Senate.
Do they want women and young girls to be injured? |

Status:
House of Representatives: The bill passed the House on January 14, 2025, with a vote of 218-206, supported by 216 Republicans and 2 Democrats. Arizona’s 3 Democrats all voted against this, including LD12’s own Greg Stanton.
Senate: As of March 3, 2025, Senate Democrats blocked a procedural vote to advance a similar measure (often cited as the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, potentially S.9), with a party-line vote of 51-45, falling short of the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster. The Senate version has not yet passed, and its future remains uncertain despite the Republican majority, as it requires bipartisan support to reach the 60-vote threshold.
Current Status: The bill is stalled in the Senate as of March 4, 2025. While the House has approved H.R. 28, the Senate’s inaction means it has not yet become law. However, President Trump’s executive order signed on February 5, 2025, titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” (Executive Order 14201), already implements similar restrictions at the federal level by directing the Department of Education to enforce Title IX in this manner, though legislation would codify this policy more permanently.
